Photo Session Wardrobe Inspo: 2024/2025 New York Fashion Week Color Report

By now you’ve probably seen some of the more jaw-dropping moments from New York Fashion Week (NYFW) 2024, and while these statement pieces aren’t what you’re about to wear to your next family photography session, it’s fun to think about which smaller details are appealing to incorporate into daily trends.

Biggest takeaways from this roundup?

Fall and Winter 2024-2025 are still about the earthy neutrals but pulling the saturation level a bit darker (trading in the warm tan for deep caramel and trading in the soft grey for a luxurious black for example). Also: seeing lots of details such as bows and pom poms sprinkled in and a heavy nod towards unique thick collars (CNN Style did a pretty great roundup of the highlights here if you want to see these details across more examples).

Let’s talk about this year’s colors…

The trend this fall/winter is earth tones, but with a twist. So many versions of green are “it” right now, and we can notice an undertone of earthiness in all of these statement colors. Most importantly: coppery brown remains the base neutralizer.

“I’m selfishly loving all of this color report… it’s almost as if these colors were hand-selected for our Iowa landscape. Electric colors are usually more suited for urban settings, urban photography sessions, but because of the earthy undertones present here we can create a color story in just about any setting with this palette.”
